XIM NEXUS FAQ

The same advanced proprietary Smart Translator aim translation technology that exists at the core of XIM Technology’s industry-leading console mouse and keyboard adapters also drives XIM NEXUS motion aim. The result is the familiarity and convenience of a controller form combined with mouse-like accuracy and speed via XIM NEXUS’ Motion Aim Engine.

The benefits of XIM NEXUS doesn’t stop with only precise motion aim. Thanks to XIM’s translation technology, XIM NEXUS is the only controller to enable true thumbstick aim curves to allow the user to craft an aiming response that can transfer feel between the games you play.

For advanced users, thumbstick, trigger, and sensor Calibration is not only accessible but fully customisable to empower the user to push their controller’s hardware responsiveness to the absolute limit. Centre of gravity and button placement were chosen for best motion support.

Packed with features yet focusing on simplicity, XIM NEXUS is the most advanced controller you will ever own.

View a visual demonstration of NEXUS Motion Aim, or watch a comparison between XIM NEXUS Motion Aim vs Mouse vs Controller Sticks.

XIM NEXUS runs at 125Hz (8ms), which is the native controller polling rate for Xbox and PlayStation controllers when a headset is connected. This polling rate provides compatibility with console games without creating crosshair jitter, ensures audio passthrough is free of static, crackle & hiss, and extends battery life.

Titan Two users have reported that XIM NEXUS feels more responsive at 250Hz, 500Hz and 1000Hz when connected via USB.

XIM NEXUS supports Windows PC, Sony PlayStation 5 (PS4 games, PS Remote Play & PS5 games with specialty PS4 controller support), Microsoft Xbox Series X / S, Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Microsoft Xbox One via XIM Smart Translators.

A genuine, first-party console controller is required to be connected to the XIM NEXUS wireless adapter at all times on supported gaming systems for console authentication.

XIM NEXUS works with DUALSHOCK 4 (PS4), Xbox Series X /S Wireless Controller, Xbox One Wireless Controller, Xbox Elite Controller and Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller for console authentication.

XIM NEXUS does not support DUALSENSE (PS5) controllers.

A genuine Sony or Microsoft controller must be connected to XIM NEXUS via USB at all times for authentication with the console, e.g. a DUALSHOCK 4 controller is required for PlayStation 4. The Xbox (Guide) button on an Xbox controller may need to be pressed after booting up the console to authenticate XIM NEXUS.

XIM NEXUS does not work with third-party or generic controllers (e.g Razer, Nacon, Scuf, Hori, Astro, PowerA, Logitech, Thrustmaster).

XIM NEXUS is compatible with Xbox Series X / S consoles and games using the Xbox Series X / S Wireless Controller (USB-C), Xbox One Wireless Controller (micro-USB), Xbox Elite Controller and Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller.

An update to the latest firmware is required for Xbox Series X controllers. Do NOT update a controller while it is connected to XIM NEXUS.

XIM NEXUS does not support Sony DUALSENSE (PS5) controller.

XIM NEXUS works via PS Remote Play app on Windows 10/11 and macOS to play PS5 games on PlayStation 5 console with a DUALSHOCK 4 V2 (CUH-ZCT2U) controller.

XIM NEXUS works wired or wirelessly with XIM MATRIX to play PS5 games on PlayStation 5 console.

XIM NEXUS works with a Beloader controller adapter to play PS5 games on PlayStation 5 console. This is NOT officially supported by XIM as Beloader disables controller audio and touchpad functionality.

PS5 games with support for specialty PS4 controllers may work with XIM NEXUS, but are not officially supported. XIM NEXUS requires a wired specialty PS4 controller connected to XIM NEXUS’ wireless adapter.

XIM NEXUS can play PS4 games on PlayStation 5 console with a DUALSHOCK 4 V2 (CUH-ZCT2U) controller connected to XIM NEXUS’ wireless adapter.

Performance will vary if using XIM NEXUS with unsupported games.

XIM NEXUS works as a regular controller in Classic Mode in all games, or as an advanced controller via Smart Translators in over 350 games.

XIM NEXUS Smart Translators support hundreds of first-person and third-person shooter games on Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 5 (PS5), PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Xbox 360.

XIM NEXUS works on PlayStation 5 (PS5) for PS4 games. PS5 games with support for specialty PS4 controllers may work with XIM NEXUS, but are not officially supported. PS5 games may be played using a XIM NEXUS via the PS Remote Play app on Windows 10 PC, macOS computers & PlayStation 4 console, or via a Beloader controller adapter.

Refer to the Official Game Support List and XIM NEXUS Game Settings for more information.

XIM NEXUS supports headphones and headsets connected to the controller for game audio and voice chat. Plug the headset into the 3.5mm controller port and the console will automatically detect the connected headset. If the headset isn’t detected, the console may need to be rebooted.

PlayStation 4 requires a DUALSHOCK 4 V2 (CUH-ZCT2U) controller for game audio and voice chat. Original DUALSHOCK 4 (CUH-ZCT1) controllers do not support audio passthrough over USB and will not work for game audio and voice chat with XIM NEXUS.

There is no need to connect a wireless headset to XIM NEXUS. Wireless headsets use USB audio adapters (PS4 & PS5 only), or a console’s optical or HDMI port for audio. XIM NEXUS does not support wireless, Bluetooth or USB headsets and cannot be used to connect a PlayStation headset to Xbox, or vice versa.

XIM NEXUS has no support for chatpads connected to either the NEXUS controller or the console authentication controller.

XIM NEXUS officially supports PC gaming via selected Smart Translators that have a PC system option. Hundreds of other XIM Smart Translators work on PC using Xbox One or Series X system options as PC and Xbox games tend to use the same look mechanics.

XIM NEXUS should work if a PC game supports Xbox 360, Xbox One, Series X / S, Xbox Elite, or DUALSHOCK 4 controllers. Plug XIM NEXUS into a PC USB port via a USB cable, or with your PS4 or Xbox console controller connected to XIM NEXUS wireless adapter, load the PC game and test the console controller. If the console controller works, so should XIM NEXUS.

When connected to PC via a Bluetooth adapter (not included), XIM NEXUS controller will appear as a generic X-input controller. X-input controllers have a limited button count that prevents NEXUS gyroscopes & rear buttons from being exposed in controller adapter software like reWASD.

Performance will vary if using XIM NEXUS with unsupported software or games.

reWASD is not supported by XIM NEXUS, however NEXUS controller may be used to emulate native mouse & keyboard input in unsupported PC games using the Generic Alpha Smart Translator. When using XIM NEXUS for mouse & keyboard emulation, there is no Aim Assist in a game.

XIM Community members have posted Shared Configs for setting up XIM NEXUS for use with reWASD.

XIM NEXUS does not support Nintendo Switch consoles. Connecting a XIM NEXUS to a Titan One, Titan Two or Magic-NS controller adapter may work with some Nintendo Switch games. XIM Smart Translators are designed to work with Windows PC, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 or Xbox 360 games. Performance will vary on Nintendo Switch.

XIM NEXUS Motion Control is an excellent way to learn how to aim with a controller. Mod Squad’s antithesis can’t hit the side of a barn with a regular controller, but quickly became competent and confident using a XIM NEXUS in Destiny 2 on Xbox Series X.

Watch the Getting Started Guide video, or refer to the Changing Button Mappings sections of the XIM NEXUS User Guide to learn how to bind buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, wheel menus, actions and roles on XIM NEXUS controller.

A Smart Action is a short, repeating sequence of up to 32 controller button presses, thumbstick and/or gyro movements to automate in-game actions. For example, Rapid-fire automatically repeats R2 / RT button presses while the trigger is held. Similarly, Anti-recoil automatically emulates the downward pull of a right analog stick to counter the upwards movement of a crosshair while shooting.

Multiple Smart Actions can be active at the same time, e.g. Rapid-fire and Anti-recoil attached to R2 / RT can perform their actions concurrently. Each game config can house up to 96 individual actions within the Smart Actions macro engine.

Smart Actions require the latest beta XIM NEXUS firmware and XIM NEXUS Manager app from https://xim.tech/beta.

Refer to the beta XIM NEXUS User Guide to create your own Smart Actions, or copy & paste pre-made Smart Actions into your games using the XIM NEXUS Shared Configs forum.

Refer to the Setting Trigger Mappings section of the XIM NEXUS User Guide.
Follow the video guide on the XIM Central YouTube channel.
Refer to the Custom Motion Smoothing section of the XIM NEXUS User Guide.

XIM NEXUS Smoothing presets use the following values –

Starter:
  • Precision = 72.5
  • Response = 40.0
  • Easing = 50.0
  • Stability = 17.5
Balanced:
  • Precision = 67.5
  • Response = 45.0
  • Easing = 42.5
  • Stability = 15.0
Twitchy:
  • Precision = 42.5
  • Response = 87.5
  • Easing = 27.5
  • Stability = 10.0
Focused:
  • Precision = 85.0
  • Response = 75.0
  • Easing = 8.5
  • Stability = 15.0
Heavy:
  • Precision = 87.5
  • Response = 42.5
  • Easing = 45.0
  • Stability = 15.0

It is possible to adjust Aim Assist behaviour on XIM NEXUS and it is much easier to lock onto Aim Assist with Motion Aim, but NEXUS will never provide more or less Aim Assist than a game engine permits.

Setting in-game Sensitivity to less than maximum, enabling in-game Aim Assist, using low XIM NEXUS Sensitivity, experimenting with Smoothing settings, and a negative Aim Curve can enhance Aim Assist on XIM NEXUS.

Setting in-game Sensitivity to maximum, in-game Aim Assist to Off, using high XIM NEXUS Sensitivity, the Twitchy Smoothing preset or disabling Smoothing, and a positive Aim Curve and can reduce Aim Assist on XIM NEXUS.

Aim Assist is a double-edged sword – it’s somewhat intangible (“feeling” Aim Assist), highly subjective and more Aim Assist does not necessarily mean better aim.

Jitter, stutter or shakiness can happen when the XIM NEXUS sensors aren’t calibrated correctly. Refer to the Auto Calibration or Manual Calibration sections of the XIM NEXUS User Guide to recalibrate the controller.

Less frequently, shakiness can also happen when the wrong Smart Translator is used, incorrect Game Settings are used, or a game is not supported by XIM NEXUS.

Some games simply have poor look mechanics that can never be fully corrected by a Smart Translator. Those games are marked with (U) in the XIM Official Game Support List.

A Crosshair moving on its own is usually due to incorrectly calibrated thumbsticks on XIM NEXUS controller. Refer to the Auto Calibration or Manual Calibration sections of the XIM NEXUS User Guide to recalibrate the controller.

Automatic crosshair movement can also be due to stick drift on the console controller connected to XIM NEXUS wireless adapter. Stick drift occurs when an analog stick no longer centres correctly due to wear. The console controller remains active and usable at all times when connected to XIM NEXUS and movement from the controller will register in-game.

When drift occurs, flicking the controller sticks will usually solve the problem. Calibrating the analog sticks by connecting the controller to the console and using the controller settings to adjust the deadzone may help to remove stick drift.

XIM NEXUS Manager Calibration settings do NOT affect the console controller connected to XIM NEXUS wireless adapter. Stick drift should never be an issue on XIM NEXUS controller due to the ability to automatically or manually calibrate stick deadzones in XIM NEXUS Manager.

XIM NEXUS triggers automatically sticking or releasing can happen when the triggers aren’t calibrated correctly. Refer to the Auto Calibration or Manual Calibration sections of the XIM NEXUS User Guide to recalibrate the controller.

If the physical trigger is stuck when fully pressed, it may be caused by the small rubber stoppers used to dampen the controller triggers. The glue used to hold them in place may have heated and seeped out from under the stopper.

A stuck trigger can easily be fixed by opening the XIM NEXUS controller shell and removing the stoppers and cleaning up residual glue, but doing so will void the XIM NEXUS warranty. To avoid that outcome, either contact us and we’ll discuss the issue with XIM technical support, or post a topic on the XIM Technical Support Forum to request an RMA from the manufacturer.

When aiming quickly with Motion Aim, XIM NEXUS will flash red to indicate that movement has hit the maximum turn speed for that game. Turn speeds are set by the game developer and cannot be exceeded by XIM NEXUS.

To maximise a game’s turn speed, set in-game sensitivity to maximum, use the red light as an indicator and reduce XIM NEXUS Sensitivity to ride the red light. It takes practice and patience to get used to console gaming turn speed limits – some games turn almost as fast as PC, while others feel sluggish.

There are a number of common causes for a non-working XIM NEXUS. The following solutions will resolve almost all issues:

  1. Ensure your console, controller, headset, computer, mobile device and game is supported by XIM NEXUS in the above FAQ.
  2. Watch the Instructional Videos, visit the Getting Started Guide and download the XIM NEXUS User Guide to learn how to setup and use XIM NEXUS.
  3. Update to the latest XIM NEXUS firmware and XIM NEXUS Manager app at https://xim.tech/latest. XIM NEXUS software releases provide updated support for consoles and controllers. Use a USB 2.0 ports on a PC or Mac to update XIM NEXUS firmware.
  4. Read the XIM NEXUS Support FAQ for a step-by-step troubleshooting guide for XIM NEXUS.
  5. Use the power button to turn on the console instead of the PS or XBox button on the controller. Otherwise, XIM NEXUS controller will be bypassed by the authentication controller connecting wirelessly to the console.
  6. Fully charge XIM NEXUS controller before use. XIM NEXUS controller can be used while recharging via USB.
  7. Fully charge the console controller before connecting to XIM NEXUS wireless adapter. The adapter will trickle-charge a controller to keep it fully charged, but may not receive enough power from the console to charge a drained controller. Removing the battery in Xbox Series X / S, Xbox Elite, or Xbox One controllers reduces the risk of power-related disconnects.
  8. A console controller must be wired via USB to XIM NEXUS wireless adapter at all times for authentication with the console. The controller must be a genuine Sony DUALSHOCK 4 or Microsoft Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, Xbox Elite controller, or a DUALSHOCK 3 or 360 controller for older consoles.
  9. If XIM NEXUS is not detected on PS5 or PS4, or disconnects after 10 minutes, ensure PS5 / PS4 → Settings → Devices → Controllers → Communication Method is set to USB.
  10. If XIM NEXUS is not detected on Xbox Series X / S or Xbox One, press the Xbox (Guide) button on the Xbox One controller after booting up the console. If XIM NEXUS remains undetected, hold the power button on the front of the console for 15 seconds. Once off, unplug the power cable to the console for 60 seconds. Reconnect the power cable and use the power button to turn on the console. Attach the console controller to XIM NEXUS wireless adapter, then connect the adapter to the console.
  11. If XIM NEXUS controller is not detected by XIM NEXUS wireless adapter, follow the Controller Pairing to Adapter instructions in the XIM NEXUS User Guide.
  12. A faulty or power-only USB cable from the console controller to XIM NEXUS will cause disconnects. Dropping a controller while connected to USB is enough to cause a USB cable fault. Replace with a data and power capable USB cable (USB-C to USB-A on Series X / S & PS5, micro-USB on PS4 & Xbox One, mini-USB on PS3 & Xbox 360). Xbox Play & Charge Kits are unsupported because there are no data lines in the cable.
  13. If the XIM NEXUS wireless adapter LED is white and controls are unresponsive, a game config may be corrupt. Use the XIM NEXUS firmware tool to perform a Factory Reset, as well as re-pairing the NEXUS controller to the adapter. Game configs will need to be recreated to avoid restoring a corrupted game config from a backup.
  14. Temporarily disable anti-virus apps while updating XIM NEXUS to prevent firmware updates being blocked.

Smart Actions are not game cheats or hacks, they rely entirely on controller input game mechanics to function. Video game developers change game mechanics on a frequent basis, so it’s not unusual for a Smart Action to stop working months or years after it was created, e.g. Jitter weapon-swapping exploits in CoD games don’t tend to work for very long.

Game developers may change the stickiness of aim assist, reduce the lock-on effect of aiming down sights, patch gameplay exploits, increase recoil or reticle bloom, remove weapons etc. Game changes are beyond the control of XIM NEXUS and a Smart Action may have a reduced effect or no longer work.

Mod Squad does not provide support for Smart Actions. Visit the XIM Community Forums, or create your own Smart Actions to adjust for changes to gameplay. We do not provide any form of compensation if the XIM NEXUS controller or a Smart Action does not perform as you’d like in a game.

Please refer to the Support tab above for links to manuals, software, tutorials and/or troubleshooting. The product manufacturer has the knowledge and expertise to quickly diagnose and resolve common issues.

If you need help to solve an issue with XIM NEXUS, the quickest process is to view the official XIM NEXUS Support FAQ for troubleshooting. If problems persist, post a topic on the XIM Technical Support Forum and send a link to your topic to support@modsquad.com.au. We’ll follow it up with XIM support staff to ensure your issue is addressed.

Please read the Conditions tab prior to purchase for XIM NEXUS requirements and limitations. A genuine first-party controller, controller USB data cable (not included) are required to use XIM NEXUS.
